Oh my goodness my love for traditional peanut butter cups is ridiculous! Unfortunately, they leave me unsatisfied and only craving more. To be able to actually make your own with only five ingredients and no refined sugar in thirty minutes, minus freezer time, is so worth it.
Did you know that cocoa is actually good for you? It IS! Raw cacao and cocoa powder can be used in baked goods and smoothies to help keep your desserts healthy. Cacao is a pure form of chocolate that comes from the harvested cacao seeds. Try to purchase a cocoa product with little or no added ingredients.
Bonus, there is nothing wrong with needing the comfort from cocoa while gaining a few health benefits at the same time.
Below are just 10 Health Benefits from Cacoa:
- Loaded with Antioxidant Properties and Minerals
- Can help prevent Cancer
- Helps treat Diabetes
- Lowers Blood Pressure
- Enhanced Cardiovascular Health
- Boosts Energy
- Weight Loss (Yes! Polyphenols in cocoa trigger muscle metabolism)

Now go and make some healthy treats!

Nut Butter (or Not) Chocolate Cups
Equipment
- 1 muffin tin
- paper muffin liners
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup melted coconut oil
- 1/2 cup plant based organic cocoa powder (I substitute one scoop of chocolate plant based protein powder for some of the cocoa)
- 2 tbsp natural sweetener (I use agave...maple syrup could also be used)
- sprinkle of salt
- 1 cup or less of natural almond, peanut, or sunflower butter
- sea salt as a topping
Instructions
- Whisk the first four ingredients together in a medium size bowl
- Place paper liners in the muffin tin. Pour a small amount of the mixture, about 1-2 tablespoons, into each paper liner.
- Place muffin tin in freezer for a few minutes, just to solidify the bottom a bit.
- Remove tin from freezer then spoon and spread nut butter of choice (or not) into the bottom of the paper cups resting on the slightly hardened cocoa mixture.
- Cover with remaining cocoa mixture and sprinkle with sea salt before freezing again for up to an hour or until solid then ENJOY!!
